New Year’s Demand

Perhaps you may have missed it, being how we are way up in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, but the first big snowfall up here last Fall was followed by the biggest fire in Estes Park history.

We lost a major portion of our downtown business section.

The Copper Penny was almost devoured, but for the heroic men of our great Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department, along with engines from, Loveland, Longmont, and Fort Collins.

Since the fire in October last year, the clean-up and the rebuilding started, we got a new roof on our building just after Christmas, and through the winter we have rebuilt The Penny.

New merchandise is arriving daily, and the staff is getting ready for a grand re-opening in another couple of weeks. You can follow The Copper Blogg

It is ironic that the Copper Penny celebrates its 60th Anniversary this year and here we are, starting all over again, with a brand new store, new merchandise, a few different people, but in the exact same location as 60 years ago!

This year, we have added some new and exciting lines, including McCall’s Country Canning Candles, the scents of which you will die for! Classic of the month is “Chocolate and Berries”. My favorites are Cherries Jubilee and Fresh Country Apple. Oh, shades of grandma’s house.

We brought two new web sites on stream last year, www.CoasterSales.com/  and www.ChamiliaGifts.com/. The first contains a complete list of popular Thirstystone products, including the University and College designs, as well as the new “Carsters”. Chamilia is dedicated to allowing you to design your own necklaces and bracelets with individual beads and charms, including an exclusive licenced Disney line.

Last week we introduced www.BarlowSales.com/ featuring the full line of great products for men, including their much vaunted “Barlow Knife” collection. Ladies, if you need a place to shop for your man, check out the beautifully engraved pocket and penknives, the assortment of sports and wildlife designs on traditional belt buckles and moneyclips, and the really neat cherry wood Valet Boxes.

For more updated information on our re-opening, please read our latest feeds at http://www.thepenny.com/thepenny.rss or pull up our web site, www.ThePenny.com/ for time and details .

A Retirement Prayer

This last few months have discouraged many of my friends, and at times disheartened even me. I can not believe what is happening to my America.
I was born in Western Canada, and supported John Diefenbaker during my time with the Campus Conservatives at university in the late 50′s.

To my chagrin, a man by the name of Pierre Elliot Trudeau became Prime Minister in 1967 and turned the country into a socialist state over a 17 year period of rule. By 1984, Canada was broke, carrying with her an unsustainable debt, derived from over 15 years of social programs, including a national health scheme, unsustainable welfare programs, and many nationalized major industries. The spillover effects of 4 years of Jimmy Carter in the U.S. put a dagger into the economic heart of Canada.

A young conservative lawyer named Brian Mulroney became Prime Minister in the Fall of ’84, with the largest majority ever recorded in the history of Canada. That started the Canadian population on the road to recovery. Canada now has very little national debt per capita, (smallest in the Western world) a thriving economy, (although the recent downturn has affected parts of Canada) and a strong banking system.
It took over 20 years to recover from the malaise of Socialism!
But…the only sad part of this story is this: The abortion provision in the Canadian Criminal Code was drafted by Pierre Trudeau (an unforgiving French Canadian Catholic who later divorced and disgraced his lovely wife Margaret) and it was passed in parliament by the help of the socialist minority party, the NDP in 1969, clearing the way for unfettered abortions that are allowed to this day! Even though polls continue to show that a majority of Canadians do not believe in abortion and that abortion should only remain legal in some circumstances.
Canada now has another young and vibrant conservative Prime Minister from Western Canada, Stephen Harper, whom you will see play a prominent role in the World G20 summit. More importantly, perhaps Harper can now finish the reconstruction of the Canadian Nation by bringing it back to a Nation of God fearing and God loving people, starting with the revocation of the Trudeau Act of 1969.
I ask for your prayers, so that the genocide of unborn Canadians can be brought to an end. And may God help all of us Americans out of the Ungodly Mess we have created in our wonderful country.

New Year’s Demand

Gosh, it’s the end of January, the Great One has given his version of Nero and the fiddle, and the Superbowl is on. But does anyone really know the state of the Union?

It is time  for a serious discussion on debt reduction before the Country goes bankrupt.

How long would your business last if your debt was larger than your total sales? How long would your family stay together when you can’t make the mortgage payment, or you owe more on your  credit cards than you make in a year?

That, my friends, is where this country is headed, and that is the real State of The Union!

The good news is that we can turn this country’s economic straights around if, and only if, Americans start to pressure the Congress and the Senate of the United States to make some major changes in the way in which they behave. An R or a D  behind the name matters not. They are all the same. The only thing that matters to them is power and getting re-elected, and the sooner you realize that the only time they give a tinker’s damn about you is at election time!

They are spending you into bankruptcy!

Our Sputnik moment? If it was not so ridiculous it still would not be funny. High speed rail? Pardon me while I roll over on the floor with laughter. Hello….There is no money left.  Obama and his merry congressional band just spent 1.5 Trillion dollars MORE than we paid in taxes last year! Simply put, we now pay 33 cents of every tax dollar collected every year on interest on this huge debt of 14 Trillion dollars.

You and I, and every American of all ages, now owes $42,000 of that debt. And if you and I don’t pay, our children and their grandchildren will have nothing to look forward to in this once-great Country. So let’s stop the Bull-tuckey and get serious!

Jefferson said Federal debt is the only thing that can really threaten this country. But lethargy or political indifference is just as dangerous.

Take a few minutes out of your day, call or write your congressman or Senator, speak to your local State Legislator, get involved with the business of your Town or municipality by getting to know your local councilman.

We should have only one demand:

Stop the spending and cut the debt!

This is not a political statement but a plea from an old farm boy who loves this Country dearly.

 God Bless America

After The Fire

Posted by: copperbob | December 26, 2009

Gosh, Where did it go?

Can you believe that ’09 is gone?  Almost one full year of progressive rule under our “historic” new President, and less than 300 days before the next “historic” election of Congress! I don’t know about you, but I can hardly wait until voting day. It will almost be like celebrating two Christmases in 2010.

Talking about Christmas, wasn’t it historic for Congress to pass the new health care bill on the eve of the celebration of the baby Jesus. The new bill allows for unfettered access to abortion for all women in America, (including partial birth abortion) and now you and I get to pay for over a million abortions a year with our tax dollars. Now, wasn’t that something to celebrate this Christmas eve?

But this new Obama health care bill is almost magical… it covers 30 million more Americans with  health care, doesn’t raise the deficit or the Nation’s debt, and doesn’t cost us taxpayers a dime in new taxes.  Amazing!  You might call this a stroke of  “Black Magic”. (a little humor there!)

The AARP commented on their website: “… Senate Democrats pieced together a delicate consensus that required changes in the bill: dropping a government-run public insurance option, which is still in the House bill; scrapping a Medicare buy-in provision for people 55 to 64 years old… ” and lamented the fact that the final bill may not fully cover abortions.

So let me see now. The group that supposedly represents millions of seniors in this country is disappointed that illegals are not getting  free health care coverage,  (although we will still pay for them in the emergency rooms across the country) disappointed that another 30 million people ages 55 to 65 won’t be allowed into the Medicare system, (even though Medicare will go flat broke in another five to seven years) and complain that a million or more American women may have to pay  the costs of their own  abortions. (even though many are now provided free of charge through government funded clinics, including Planned Parenthood, the biggest abortion mill in the world)

The one thing AARP omitted (I’m sure it was just an over site)  is that nearly $460 billion (That’s Billion with a B) will be stripped from Medicare over the next ten years. Now it’s funny that they don’t mention that, and I wonder why? Could it be that their shoddy “Medigap Insurance” will soon be offered as a replacement for “Medicare Advantage”?  Just at  slightly higher premiums of course, but AARP is sure looking out for us seniors  are they not?  This will now guarantee rationed health care, and end up shortening the lives of many Americans who will not get proper care in the late stages of their lives. But to quote one of our esteemed politicians…”that’s just life’s lottery!”.

I can hardly wait for Cap and Trade (the bogus new energy bill that’s based on Global Warming,   or now it’s called  “Climate Change”  because the planet has not increased, but decreased slightly in temperature in the last ten years) and the new Immigration Legislation (Amnesty Bill) coming this Spring. All those new “Green” jobs that are going to be created, all those new wind farms dotting the landscapes across this great country of ours (but not in Massachusetts near old Ted Kennedy’s place) the solar systems that don’t “solar” or do anything at night or on rainy days (I guess we don’t need heat or light at night!) And all the new electric cars that are going to be plugged in to all those shiny new windmills, or maybe have solar panels built into the roof of each vehicle…but we could only drive in the daytime because, remember, it doesn’t “solar” during the night.

And citizenship  for all those illegals:  (oops…undocumented) Is it not ironic that the first black president will now preside over a new class of slaves who will work for $5.00 an hour and do all those things that red-blooded proud Americans won’t do! But there is hope my frinds, as soon as they are documented, then they can all join the SEIU and negotiate for $20 an hour, and isn’t America wonderful, the land of milk, honey, … and a totally corrupt Government!  …At least for another 300 days.

Oh, and by the way, have a really great New Year!
